Hearing Tests In The Workplace

Are you concerned for your workers safety and hearing health in your workplace?

Every year, workers throughout Australia are injured or killed because:

  • They cannot clearly hear or understand safety instructions;

  • They cannot hear trucks or forklifts reversing behind them in time;

  • They cannot hear equipment safety warning signals;

  • They cannot hear a smoke alarm; and

  • They cannot clearly hear instructions in the event of an emergency (fire, chemical spill, machinery failure, etc.)

We know you, as a responsible employer, are committed to having your workers go home each night to their families in good health. Ensuring your workers are in good hearing health helps ensure your company's productivity and profitability.

Workers compensation claims for hearing loss and injuries caused by hearing loss can be extremely damaging to your company's future. Between July 2002 and June 2007, there were approximately 16,500 successful workers' compensation claims for industrial deafness involving permanent impairment due to noise (Safe Work Australia, 2010).

For businesses where workers are exposed to noise exceeding 85dB in the workplace, it is a legal requirement that a 'prescribed workplace' organises for their employees to have their hearing tested within the first three months of commencing employment (baseline test), and at least every two years thereafter, according to stipulations of the The Australian Standard AS/NZS  1269.4  2014. A 'prescribed workplace' is defined as one where employees are exposed to continuous noise of 85dB or more in an eight hour working day, or a peak exposure of 140dB and wears PPE.

Hear Safe Tasmania staff are available at any time convenient to your schedule to visit your company and conduct hearing testing for your workers, or to test noise levels of equipment and machinery.

Our equipment is the latest and best available, and we are committed to ongoing training and gathering relevant information to ensure the service you receive is of the highest possible quality.
